Manchester United have been handed a boost in pursuit of Real Madrid’s star attacking midfielder, Marco Asensio, according to Diario Gol, translated by the Manchester Evening News.
The report claims that the 22-year-old is ready to walk out on Real Madrid in the summer if Zinedine Zidane is kept on as first-team manager, with United reportedly interested in signing Asensio, although they’ll face competition from Manchester City and Bayern Munich.
Asensio is a cracking football, capable of producing the spectacular on any given night. However, under Zidane, he’s been limited at times, and I’d fully understand his decision to leave in the summer if he so chooses.
However, I feel we should be looking at other areas of the team that need addressing first. our defence is an absolute mess, and it’s blatantly obvious the midfield could also do with some work.
If Jose Mourinho is intent on bringing in Asensio, I’d fully imagine at least one attacking player would be sold. Perhaps Juan Mata’s head could be on the chopping block as they’re similar players. I guess we’ll just have to wait and see what comes to fruition over the summer.
