Manchester United have been handed an early Manchester derby boost, with Goal, per The Metro, stating that Manchester City are preparing to field a weakened team for the match.
For Pep Guardiola’s men, the game is sandwiched in between their Champions League quarter-final double-header against Liverpool, and although the blues can wrap up the Premier League title with a victory against the Red Devils, it seems as though the man from Catalonia is ready to risk losing the derby.
Obviously, this is great news for us as it gives us a better chance at winning the game, meaning they may not be able to beat us to secure the Premier League title. With that said, you have to say that it makes sense from Guardiola’s perspective to do this.
Sure, it’s always nice to go up against the best and beat the best, but at this point in time, winning a derby, under any circumstances, would be a nice little confidence-booster for the players before their FA Cup semi-final against Tottenham Hotspur.
With that said, victory is by no means guaranteed and it’ll obviously be a tremendously difficult match for United, but I certainly feel a little more confident about the game…
