Manchester United handed home tie in the FA Cup Third Round

Manchester United’s FA Cup glory seems a long time ago already, despite the trophy only being lifted just over six months ago now. That match was Louis van Gaal’s in charge of the Red Devils, and now Jose Mourinho has been handed his first FA Cup assignment – and he’ll pit his wits against a former United hero in the opposing dugout.

The draw was made on Monday evening, and Manchester United confirmed that they’ll host Championship side Reading FC at the Theatre of Dreams in early January.

It’s always nice to get a home draw, although Reading will be no pushovers. New manager and Manchester United icon Jaap Stam has them playing some excellent football, and they currently sit third in their league at the moment – pushing for a place in the Premier League.

Going into the tournament as holders of the trophy puts that extra pressure on as the lads will be looking to defend it. Hopefully, Jose Mourinho’s side can get a win in this one when the time comes around – but before then, we have a busy festive period to navigate, and we need to start moving up the table rather quickly…
