Manchester United Football Club have no intention of bringing Patrice Evra back to the Theatre of Dreams, according to the Daily Mail. This comes literally a day after reports emerged, linking the 33-year-old Frenchman with a move away from Juventus, with him wanting to come to Old Trafford once again.
Well, it didn’t take long at all for this rumour to be quashed, and in my opinion, it is totally the right decision from a footballing standpoint. Let’s be honest, when he left just a couple of years ago his legs looked absolutely gone and defensively he did become a liability.
For sentimental value, it would absolutely be brilliant to have him back in some capacity. Perhaps the best thing to do would bring him in on some sort of coaching job and let him learn from Jose Mourinho and his team.
His playing days at the highest level are over, though, and it would be a step backwards in my opinion. Especially when you have the likes of Luke Shaw and Cameron Borthwick-Jackson waiting patiently for their huge chances.
Luke Shaw in particular, is an interesting one, with the same Daily Mail report suggesting that he will get another big chance from the manager when he returns to full fitness. That’s obviously a massive confidence booster for the young man after a supremely slow start.
