Manchester United Football Club have been hit with a major double injury blow – just four days before the Premier League opener against Leicester City.
That’s according to the Manchester Evening News, with Jose Mourinho apparently being unable to confirm whether either Eric Bailly or Ander Herrera will be ready for the clash against The Foxes.
Both hobbled off during United’s final pre-season game against Bayern Munich on Sunday night, which left the manager sweating in regards to their availability for such a huge game at Old Trafford on Friday night.
At this point, we’re unsure as to the severity of the issues, but usually, Herrera’s a tough cookie so I don’t imagine he’ll be kept out of action for too long.
In regards to Bailly, that’s becoming somewhat of an issue. He spent the majority of last season nursing injuries, and during pre-season he’s looked like he’s been carrying more bumps and bruises. Hopefully, this isn’t anything too problematic because starting this season in a similar manner would be a massive disappointment. I don’t want him to pick up that injury-prone label as that will severely affect his mindset.
It does mean opportunities for other players, though. Victor Lindelof should now start, as will Andreas Pereira, who’s had a brilliant pre-season.
