Manchester United hit with yet another defensive injury

Just as we get one player back from injury it seems like we’re losing another. United’s latest casualty is Chris Smalling, who was taken off midway through the first half of the game against Southampton last night with a suspected groin problem. The severity of the injury is unknown at the moment, but we should know more before the week is out.

Smalling has been in some super form of late, since his horror show in the Manchester derby back in November. The Englishman has done his best to turn things around since the derby, winning a vote of confidence once again from the Old Trafford faithful.

With Liverpool visiting Old Trafford on Sunday, hopefully Smalling’s injury isn’t too serious and he can start that game alongside Marcos Rojo. The pair have formed a decent partnership of late, and at least it brings some consistency to our back line.
