Manchester United are hopeful of sealing a deal for their second major signing of the transfer window, before the pre-season tour kicks off on Sunday. The man in question? Alvaro Morata, with the Manchester Evening News claiming the Red Devils could unveil the Spaniard before they jet across the Atlantic.
As we all know, the Old Trafford club have only sealed the one major signing so far, in the form of Victor Lindelof. If you believe reports, Jose Mourinho isn’t best pleased with Edward Woodward’s lack of activity, but if the vice-chairman could push a deal for Morata over the line within the next five days, then the gaffer could be appeased somewhat.
It comes as no secret that United are in desperate need to bring in a new striker, particularly as Zlatan Ibrahimovic has been released on a free transfer.
Bringing in Morata would undoubtedly be a pricey deal, but it is a signing that the Manchester club simply have to make. This is a man who scored 20 goals across all competitions last season, without really ever being given a regular run in the starting line-up.
He’s also only 24 and developing as a player all the time. Edward Woodward has four days and counting to get this one over the line.
