Manchester United are weighing up a potential move for Napoli star man, Dries Mertens.
That’s according to Italian media outlet II Mattino, translated by the Manchester Evening News. The report reckons that Jose Mourinho is monitoring the Belgian’s situation, and is eyeing a summer transfer deal.
However, any move for Mertens will only happen if the Red Devils choose to cash in on Anthony Martial. Apparently, United would be willing to spend £27million on the 30-year-old who is having an excellent season i the Serie A.
I love Mertens, and I think he’d bring some more experience to the table, but it’d be absolutely criminal if the club let Martial leave this summer. We’re talking about an immensely gifted attacker who’d improve any side in world football.
Letting him leave Old Trafford without any real fight would be a massive shame, particularly for the match-going fans who pay good money to watch footballers with his rare skill-set.
With that said, I wouldn’t put it beyond Mourinho to sell Martial and bring in an older player; that’s just what he does. If that’s the case, we’ll have to get behind the decision and give the new man our complete backing.
