Manchester United will definitely be looking to bring in at least a few new faces over the summer, to strengthen the playing squad that so obviously needs work based on our sixth-placed Premier League finish. Now, we’ve been given an update in regards to Real Madrid’s James Rodriguez potentially coming here.
According to French radio station RMC, translated by The Sun, Manchester United are in talks with Real Madrid to sign the world-class Colombian playmaker – but we aren’t alone as Inter Milan are also in discussions with Los Blancos.
The 25-year-old has been in and out of Madrid’s team this season, but to me, his omission from Zinedine Zidane’s Champions League final squad was the final nail in the coffin. Now, I’d be surprised if he remained at the Santiago Bernabeu beyond this summer.
Madrid are apparently holding out for £60million for the attacker that they bought on the back of a stunning World Cup campaign for his native Colombia, but things haven’t quite worked out.
In my honest opinion, Rodriguez is the type of player we’ve been desperate for. I genuinely cannot remember the last time we had an out-and-out #10 who can play just in behind the striker picking those defence-splitting passes.
It just depends on what formation Mourinho is planning to play in the new season, because moving for James would be pretty pointless if the manager isn’t opting to use an attacking midfielder in his system. I guess we’ll just have to wait and see how this one pans out.
