Manchester United have had a slow start to proceedings following the international break, culminating with an absolute thumping at the hands of Chelsea over the weekend. Two players who underperformed on that day have now been nominated for a major personal award, which is credit to their stunning year overall.
Earlier today, FIFA announced the thirty-man shortlist of players that’ll battle it out for the most prestigious personal award in the game; the Ballon d’Or trophy.
On that list were a couple of Manchester United players, who have had a simply sensational twelve months at both Manchester United and their previous clubs.
First up, Paul Pogba. The most expensive signing in world football, and his time at Juventus was nothing short of outstanding. Last year he made it into the FIFPro XI, but this time around he’s hoping to go one better.
The other red on the list is Zlatan Ibrahimovic. The influential Swede made a great start to life at United, and over the last year he has more than a goal to game ratio in league football – justifying his inclusion.
Both will struggle to make the final three however, particularly when you have bth Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo playing out of their skin every week…
