Manchester United legend set for return to England, but not to Old Trafford

Patrice Evra is one of the best left-backs that the Premier League has ever seen. The Frenchman came to Manchester United over eleven years ago now, when Sir Alex Ferguson took a gamble on the man who then was plying his trade for AS Monaco in his homeland.

Recently, reports have been speculating that the now 35-year-old could have well been on his way back to the Theatre of Dreams, but now those have seemingly been quashed.

Sky Sports News quote Sky Sports in Italy, and say that Crystal Palace are extremely close to signing Patrice Evra from Juventus. The report says that all parties involved are happy, and Evra has agreed to come back to England and play for the London-based club.

For me, this move is bittersweet. Paddy won absolutely everything at Manchester United, and he was one of those overseas players that just got the way we do things here. He was one of the best left-backs of his generation, and he had an excellent rapport with the Old Trafford crowd.

It’ll be great to see him back in England, but it’s just a shame he probably isn’t good enough to do it at Manchester United. I’ve no doubts that he’ll get a sublime reception every time he visits our ground with his new team though, and that is the absolute least he deserves.
