Manchester United locked in battle to sign Premier League star – report

Manchester United were certainly in the market for defenders over the summer, and one area that wasn’t really targeted by Louis van Gaal was the centre-back spot, however that could be about to change according to the Daily Telegraph.

Louis van Gaal is set to go head-to-head with FC Barcelona in an attempt to lure John Stones to Old Trafford.

The Everton man has been in fine form all season, and Chelsea put in some huge bids in for him over the summer but they were rejected. It was thought that United were keen to make a move for him then, but chose not to get locked in a bidding war with Jose Mourinho’s side.

That stance has now changed, and after keeping a close eye on him during the season, Stones has now risen up Manchester United’s list of targets and a move in January could well be on the cards.
