In the not too distant future Manchester United may find themselves three midfielders light.
Marouane Fellaini left in January, Ander Herrera has walked away this summer while Paul Pogba may be next up. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has seemingly started working on finding a replacement.
The story comes from Belgium media outlet DH, who say that AS Monaco midfielder Youri Tielemans will not be playing in Ligue 1 with the principality club next season.
Apparently, Manchester United, Manchester City and Leicester City have all shown an interest in the 22-year-old – with both United and Leicester tabling €40m (£36m) bids for the Belgium international.
The article goes on to add that in United’s case, Tielemans is a ‘potential’ Pogba replacement should the superstar 26-year-old get his wish and leave Old Trafford this summer.
Tielemans was mightily impressive during the second-half of the 2018/19 season for Brendan Rodgers’ Leicester, proving to be a vital cog in their midfield as they surged up the table.
For one so young, it feels as though Tielemans has been in and around the game for years already and there’s no doubt that he’d immediately slot straight into the Red Devils’ starting line-up should he make the move to Manchester.
DH don’t confirm whether or not the bid has been accepted by AS Monaco, but you’d imagine that United are in the right ball-park in terms of figure.
Hopefully, Solskjaer can stave off interest from Leicester and get this deal wrapped up quickly.
