Manchester United have made one final, £40million take-it-or-leave-it offer to Tottenham Hotspur in an attempt to sign Toby Alderweireld this summer.
That’s according to the Daily Mirror, per The Metro, with Jose Mourinho refusing to pay over that amount, because the centre-half will be available for just £25million in twelve months time.
Mourinho is in the market to sign a new central defender during this window, but with time running down, it looks as though he’ll have to explore other options before Thursday’s deadline.
If we enter the season with the current batch of centre-backs, it could be a long old season for the Red Devils. They certainly need reinforcements in that area of the field, but Edward Woodward is going to have to act extremely quickly.
Alderweireld, at 29, would be a stunning signing. He’d bring some much-needed experience to the table, and no doubt our backline would be far more solid from the get-go. Great in the air, tough in the tackle and left-footed, he’d be the perfect partner for a fully fit Eric Bailly at the heart of our back line. Honestly, I’d just pay whatever Spurs want and get the deal done, because interest in him will be even greater next summer.
