Manchester United make Ryan Sessegnon enquiry: report

Manchester United’s 2019 summer transfer window has been steady. However, there is much work still to be done.

Names continued to be linked with a potential switch to Old Trafford. Over the last 24 hours, Fulham left-back Ryan Sessegnon is the latest to be thrown into the mix.

The story comes from The Telegraph, who state that United are amongst a handful of clubs who have enquired about signing the 19-year-old. Juventus, Paris Saint-Germain, RB Leipzig and Tottenham Hotspur are the other teams named.

Sessegnon is now into the final year of his contract, with Spurs believing they’ll be able to secure a deal of around £25million for the versatile Englishman.

With Fulham now relegated, there’s little chance that the teenager pens a new deal at Craven Cottage meaning the London club’s hand has been forced. They’ll either have to sell him now, presumably to the highest bidder – or lose him for free next summer.

This deal would fit in line with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s new-look transfer strategy of signing young, preferably English players – and make no mistake about it, Sessegnon is a talented young man.

He was outstanding in Fulham’s promotion campaign in 2017/18, but his first season in the Premier League was a stop-start one. The ability is there, and you’d imagine he’d only improve playing with better players around him.

In terms of fit, Sessegnon would be a more than capable back-up for Luke Shaw, while also being good enough to fill in further forward if Solskjaer needs him. If the Reds can sign him for under £20million this summer, then it’d be a deal that makes a whole lot of sense.
