Manchester United took a massive gamble when they signed Memphis Depay for £25million last summer, with Louis van Gaal firmly believing in the abilities of his compatriot. However up until this point that hasn’t worked out at all, and we’ve not seen enough from the 22-year old.
Today, talk of a Manchester United exit has been fuelled by the Daily Star, who claim that he has deleted everything Manchester United related from his Instagram account.
However, in contrast to that, the Manchester Evening News say that Memphis Depay has been included in Manchester United’s match day squad to take on Leicester City this afternoon.
Its been a bit bizarre for Depay this year. At the start of the season he was a regular in the line-ups, but after a string of poor performances he has been limited to minutes off the bench. Since then he has rarely been included from the start of matches, which will have obviously dented his confidence.
I don’t see United ditching him after just one season though, as it wouldn’t make much sense. The club knew that Depay was going to be a long-term project rather than him coming in and setting the world alight from the off.
