Well well well, it finally looks as though German midfielder Bastian Schweinsteiger is about to end his Manchester United exile. According to the extremely reliable Sky Sports News, their sources say the veteran could well make his first appearance of the season against West Ham this evening.
The report says that Jose Mourinho has told Sky that the manager has no issue with naming the World Cup winner in the starting eleven if he sees fit – which is a dramatic turnaround.
Let’s not forget that Schweinsteiger started the season training with the reserves and completely out of the first-team picture. Now, due to injuries and suspensions, the 32-year-old is now firmly back in contention.
Now alright, it is only the EFL Cup and in my opinion Jose Mourinho would much prefer to utilise Michael Carrick and/or Morgan Schneiderlin if either of those guys are fit.
I would find it wonderful to see Bastian Schweinsteiger to start, though, just to see if he can come into the mix and play anywhere near the level that he was once capable of. If that’s the case, it would give Jose Mourinho another midfield option for the rest of the campaign, which obviously wouldn’t be a bad thing whatsoever.
