Manchester United could well lose one of their fan favourites next summer, with Valencia CF plotting a move to bring Juan Mata back ‘home’ to Spain.
That’s according to The Sun, per the Manchester Evening News. Mata spent four years with Valencia, and the relationship between he and the club is thought to be good; they’re planning on using that to entice the now 30-year-old to return to La Liga.
Mata’s time at United has been mixed. The Spaniard has given us some brilliant memories – most importantly that stunning goal against Liverpool away at Anfield.
However, there have been far too many sub-par performances from such an intelligent player. That’s not his fault, though. He’s spent far too long stuck out on the right-wing, a position which he just doesn’t have the skillset for.
It comes as no surprise to see that his best performances have come when playing through the middle. No doubt that if Valencia bought him, he’d go back to playing as a #10 and flourishing, particularly as his style suits the Spanish game wonderfully well.
Honestly, this transfer makes complete sense. It’d be a shame to see him go, but at this point in time it seems to be worthwhile for all involved parties.
