Just when it looked like Manchester United had turned a corner when it came to injuries, Louis van Gaal has been hit with a killer blow. Bastian Schweinsteiger is done for the season with a serious knee injury, in which ligament damage is believed to have been suffered.
The news broke yesterday when the German pulled out of the international squad, and Joachim Loew (Germany manager) confirmed the devastating news.
Schweinsteiger will now miss each of Manchester United’s remaining games this term, as well as being a major doubt for the European Championships this summer. If its as serious as first thought, he could well miss the start of Manchester United’s 2016-17 campaign too.
This is massively disappointing, especially when you consider the 31-year old had just returned to the first-team fold following a two-month lay-off. When he signed everyone feared the worst regarding his fitness, and it looks as though they’ve been proven right with this latest setback.
