Manchester United are monitoring the situation of Toby Alderweireld, as the Tottenham Hotspur star is stalling on a new contract, according to the Manchester Evening News.
The 28-year-old has eighteen months left on his current deal, although Spurs have the option for a further year if they see fit, but clearly, they want to pen the brilliant Belgian down to a new contract.
It’s pretty obvious that Manchester United have been struggling with their centre-back situation recently, with Jose Mourinho having to put faith in both Chris Smalling and Phil Jones; two guys who’re always good to make a key mistake at some point.
Alderweireld is arguably the best centre-back in England when fit, and partnering him with Eric Bailly would almost immediately make United an elite level side both domestically and in Europe.
The main concern is Spurs’ Daniel Levy. He’s a notoriously tough negotiator when it comes to transfer dealings and no doubt he’d demand an astronomical transfer fee to sell to a fellow Premier League side. With that said, if there is any club that can afford it, Manchester United would be right at the front of that queue…
