Manchester United have been offered the opportunity to sign the world-class Jerome Boateng this summer.
That’s according to Bild, translated by The Sun. The report says that Bayern Munich have told the Red Devils to bid for the 29-year-old, with the German keen on leaving Bavaria.
Centre-back became a real problem area for Jose Mourinho last season. Eric Bailly spent large portions of the campaign out injured, Victor Lindelof was inconsistent, as was Phil Jones. Outside of Chris Smalling, there was no real constant at the heart of defence.
Boateng is brilliant, he’s been superb for Bayern, and he’d improve any team in world football. In his seven-year stay at the Allianz Arena, he’s won six league titles, a Champions League crown and countless other domestic trophies.
He’s a serial winner, and perhaps he wants to right a few Premier League wrongs – after a failed move to Manchester City back in 2010.
Alongside Bailly, that’s a back two of real quality, bringing the perfect mix of calmness, composure and aggressive defending. With all that said, Boateng certainly won’t come cheap. If Edward Woodward can somehow pull this deal off, he’d deserve a whole host of credit.
