Manchester United could be about to send Chelsea into rage-mode if this latest report is true. According to the Daily Mail, the Red Devils have outbid the London club in the race to sign Tiemoue Bakayoko, and now Jose Mourinho’s men are the favourites to sign the Frenchman.
This comes just hours after Romelu Lukaku chose to move to Old Trafford over Stamford Bridge, and if lightning strikes twice and United beat The Blues to yet another player, they’ll be absolutely furious.
Personally, I’d love for us to bring in Bakayoko. The report claims that Mourinho is willing to pay in excess of £40million to sign the 22-year-old, which, given his age, isn’t too bad in the modern market.
He’s the typical, modern day defensive midfielder. Bakayoko is quick, brilliant on the ball yet strong in the tackle and has wonderful positional sense.
For me, we’ve been calling out for that player who can come in and protect the back four, giving the likes of Paul Pogba and Ander Herrera freedom to move forward into the attacking areas of the pitch.
It’s just a waiting game now, but the pressure is certainly on Edward Woodward. Jose Mourinho wanted his targets before pre-season began (which obviously got underway on Monday). However, he has until July 15th until our first tour game against the LA Galaxy.
