Manchester United made a bold first signature under Jose Mourinho, with the manager spending £20+ million on bringing in Eric Bailly from Villareal. The Ivorian defender has acquitted himself brilliantly in his pre-season games for the club so far.
However, according to a report carried out by the Daily Mirror, Eric Bailly is one of several Premier League signings that clubs have overpaid for this summer.
The reports says that English clubs tend to value signings at way over the odds to the rest of Europe, and they add that a whole host of German sides were looking at signing 22-year-old Bailly, but wanted to pay no more than £20million.
At the end of the day, this is what makes the Premier League so special, and the most popular on the planet. It has the biggest audience, hence the biggest TV deal meaning the clubs earn more money.
