Manchester United are planning fresh contract talks with Anthony Martial, sources have told ESPN.
The 22-year-old has just fifteen months running on his current deal, and understandably, the Red Devils are keen to tie him down to a longer contract, so they don’t risk losing Martial in a cut-price deal or on a free transfer.
Initial discussions took place in December, although no official offer was made, but ESPN says that the club sis confident that an agreement will be reached, despite the fact that the player will seek assurances about his playing time.
It’s tough for Martial. Don’t forget that he had his shirt number taken off him when Ibrahimovic was signed. Now, Alexis Sanchez has been added to the playing squad, a world-class footballer who plays in the same position. But, he loves to prove people wrong and I fully expect him to stay and do the same thing yet again.
This is his third season at Old Trafford and Martial is improving all the time. It’d be daft if United didn’t offer him big-money to stay, while giving him ample opportunities to prove his worth.
The Frenchman missed United’s game against Crystal Palace with injury, and the club will assess whether he’ll be ready to take on Liverpool over the next couple of days.
