Manchester United Football Club are preparing a huge bid for SS Lazio midfielder Sergej Milinkovic-Savic before Thursday’s transfer deadline.
That’s according to Calciomercato, translated by The Sun. Jose Mourinho has apparently been left frustrated by Edward Woodward’s transfer market dealings, and clearly, he wants one final, big-money move before things come to an end for the summer.
The one problem? Lazio’s £138million asking price to let the Serbia international leave, but, if there is one club that can afford to pay whatever transfer fee, it’s cash-rich United. The report does add that Woodward will wait until the last minute to blow any rival bidders out of the water.
Although it would be a stunning signing, I don’t see any real logic behind bringing in another central midfield player at this point in time. Surely the focus should be on adding a centre-half or a right-winger? The only way I could see a big-money middle-of-the-park player coming in is if someone is going, Paul Pogba perhaps?
At this point, it’s mostly guess-work. The press have linked us with practically every name under the sun in recent weeks, so I’m not really sure as to whether they know who we’re actually after. My guess is that this is all a smokescreen and United fans will be celebrating an unexpected signing or two come Thursday’s deadline.
