Manchester United Football Club are set for a huge summer clearout, with up to nine players potentially on the chopping block. That’s what the Daily Mail claims, per The Sun.
Amongst players named, Luke Shaw’s stands out the most. Jose Mourinho was scathing in his attack of the Englishman following the Red Devils’ 2-0 victory at home to Brighton on Saturday, and in all honesty, would anyone be surprised to see him leave Old Trafford this summer?
The report also says that both Juan Mata and Ander Herrera could be on the chopping block. It’s clear that the self-proclaimed Special One isn’t impressed with the attitude of some players, but losing these two would be a mistake in my opinion.
Daley Blind and Matteo Darmian are named as potential players who could be sold, and let’s be honest, this wouldn’t surprise anyone. Darmian just isn’t good enough, whereas Blind doesn’t really fit into Mourinho’s style of play.
You also have ‘The Chuckle Brothers’. Well, that’s what I call them anyway. To most, they’re Phil Jones and Chris Smalling. I’d probably keep Smalling around as a squad player, but Jones’ injury record alone means he has to go.
Marouane Fellaini’s another name who’s likely to leave. He hasn’t been playing much recently due to injury, but the fact that he’s still not signed a new contract certainly feels like the writing is on the wall.
Finally, you have Anthony Martial. I love the Frenchman, and when he’s on song there aren’t many better. His main issue is that he’s nowhere near consistent enough. Some games he’ll just go missing completely, and he needs to work on that if he wants to stay at United.
