Manchester United are a club renowned for bringing their youth players through the ranks, and then giving them the opportunity to perform at the highest level. The motto if you’re good enough, you’re old enough springs to mind here, and the books currently have a whole host of top talents on them at the moment.
Perhaps the biggest prospect of the lot is Angel Gomes, a 16-year-old whom the sky truly is the limit for if he continues to develop and grow. The attacker has a contract at United until 2018, and his reputation within the game is rapidly growing.
Now, reports coming from the Daily Mail say that FC Barcelona have shown an interest in taking Gomes to the Camp Nou. The attacking midfielder who made his U18 international debut aged just fourteen is setting the world alight at youth level, and this just backs that point up.
Manchester United obviously won’t be keen on the idea of letting him leave, and I honestly cannot see a move happening purely down to his age. The club have him tied down for another two years, and if he improves year-on-year, I cannot see any real reason for him to move on beyond that period.
