For Jose Mourinho, the Old Trafford walls are closing in. Manchester United are winless in four, the Red Devils have looked uninspiring, to say the least.
It looks as though the dressing room has well and truly been lost. According to The Mirror, per The Metro, the United players believe that the self-proclaimed Special One will be out of a job soon; as the squad no longer believes nor trusts in the 55-year-old.
Mourinho’s fight with Paul Pogba has been well documented, but fall-outs with other names, including Alexis Sanchez, Eric Bailly, Antonio Valencia and Marcus Rashford have also taken place.
When you take on multiple big personalities, in a modern-day game where the players hold all the cards, that spells nothing but trouble.
My personal feeling on the matter is that what worked for Mourinho a decade ago has grown old, really quickly. Things have changed an awful lot. Mourinho hasn’t adapted. That’s what I believe will eventually cost him his job.
Thankfully for him, the board will give Mourinho every opportunity to turn things around. They could have sacked Louis van Gaal at any point during his second season in charge, instead, he lasted until the season’s end. Don’t be surprised to see a similar situation play out at United. This will be a long and drawn-out process, but I don’t see any way back.
