When Louis van Gaal conducted his first Manchester United press conference on Thursday, the 62-year old suggested that he’ll take the first month of his reign to assess the current squad before bringing in any new players.
Today though, Spanish media outlet Sport seem to think that Manchester United are preparing an £8million bid for AC Milan midfielder Nigel de Jong. The ex-Manchester City man had a superb World Cup under the guidance of Louis van Gaal, but he’s almost thirty and there isn’t much football left in him.
The fee is fairly cheap, and we desperately need at least one or two more midfielders especially after Michael Carrick’s injury. This is highlighted by the fact that there are four goalkeepers going on tour, but just three central midfielders.
De Jong would be that hard-man that United have lacked since Roy Keane. He isn’t afraid to shirk a tackle and throw his weight around, plus he’ll always get stuck in.
For a quick fix I think it’d be a good move. Louis van Gaal knows his game inside-out, and De Jong already has Premier League experience after playing for Manchester City.
