Manchester United ready to listen to offers for 27-year-old: report

Manchester United Football Club go into their second season under the watchful eye of Jose Mourinho in just over a month or so, but before then, the gaffer is making his transfer moves. The first name in was Victor Lindelof of SL Benfica, and now it looks as though a centre-half is about to be sold.

That’s according to The Sun, who are reporting that Mourinho is ready to listen to offers for the 27-year-old Chris Smalling.

On top of that, Phil Jones is going to get the chance to fight for his place in the squad, partly due to his versatility as he can also fill in at right-back when needed.

This is somewhat of a U-turn, as it was Smalling who got the nod in the Champions League final, where Jones was watching on from the substitutes bench – but in my opinion, it is the correct decision.

Jones is a couple of years younger at 25, and I just think he’s a more talented footballer. At times, Smalling looks every bit the non-league defender he once was due to his shocking positional sense – and the mistakes he makes just seem to be much more costly.

With that said, the former Blackburn Rovers man Jones simply has to have a good season in 2017-18, or else it could be curtains for him too…
