Manchester United Football Club are ready to make their move for Chelsea winger Willian.
That’s according to ESPN, who says that Jose Mourinho wanted to sign the Brazil international last summer, but Chelsea didn’t want to sell the 29-year-old, despite Willian being open to the deal taking place.
Mourinho’s interest has been re-ignited due to Anthony Martial’s future being thrown up in the air. The Frenchman has struggled to break into the team following Alexis Sanchez’s arrival, with ESPN adding that Juventus could be keen on acquiring the left-winger.
If you offered me the swap of Willian for Martial, I’d be more than happy with it. The Red Devils are so top-heavy on that left-hand side, and parting with a rotational player for someone who can start week-in-week-out just makes perfect sense to me.
Then you have to remember that Mourinho knows Willian’s game inside-out. The pair have previously worked together during their time at Chelsea, so each will know exactly what’ll be expected from the other. With each sentence I write, this one looks more and more like a no-brainer.
ESPN also add that United are interested in Toby Alderweireld, which backs up claims from The Standard. Keep an eye on this one…
