The January transfer window is now in full flow, and we’re still unsure as to whether the Manchester United manager will make any moves during this mid-season period. However, he could well be interested in reigniting a potential move in a certain centre-back…
That’s because Portuguese international, and Southampton man Jose Fonte wants to leave the South Coast as soon as possible, according to Sky Sports News as well as several others.
There is no doubt that Jose Fonte will once again be linked to Manchester United, particularly following the summer transfer window in which where he was heavily rumoured to make the move to the Theatre of Dreams.
He’s 33 now and still has eighteen months left to run on his current deal, and over the summer a move for Fonte didn’t sound like such a bad idea in my opinion.
Fonte is a more than adequate Premier League centre-back, but with the fine form of the likes of Phil Jones and Marcos Rojo, would it be considered a step back bringing in a man of his age at this point in time?
In my personal opinion, that boat has sailed and I wouldn’t like to see Mourinho make a move for his Portuguese compatriot. However, if the board at Old Trafford decide otherwise, we have to fully back the manager’s decisions 100% as he’s been so successful with every transfer he has made thus far.
