Manchester United have a new number ten. Marcus Rashford has switched from number nineteen to such an iconic Red Devils jersey number, and what a confidence-booster that is for the young man.
The club, and the Manchester Evening News, confirmed the number-switch before United took on Bayern Munich in their final pre-season friendly.
From Jose Mourinho’s point of view, this is a massive show of faith. Rashford didn’t really feature much for England over the summer, but it looks as though the young striker is firmly in the self-proclaimed Special One’s plans for the 2018/19 campaign; and rightly so.
Rashford is ever-improving. With Anthony Martial’s future up in the air, coupled with Alexis Sanchez putting in some brilliant performances through the middle, the man from Wythenshawe has a massive chance to stake a claim and make that left-back slot his own.
The fact that he largely had the summer off despite being over in Russia plays to his benefit. Mourinho won’t have any doubts about his fitness as we head into the game against Leicester City on Friday night, and he should certainly get the starting job, in my opinion.
It’s his jersey, what an honour for Rashford, let’s hope he’s wearing it with pride for the next decade, while winning trophies galore.
