Manchester United Football Club have been quite heavily linked with a move to bring in AS Monaco’s Fabinho recently. The talented midfielder, who was a part of that brilliant Ligue 1 team that won the title and made it to the Champions League semi-final would have been a welcome addition.
Now though, it looks like the Red Devils were never really firmly interested in signing Fabinho. That’s according to the Manchester Evening News, who say that the self-proclaimed Special One has ruled out a move to bring in the versatile Brazilian.
For me, Fabinho would have been a ridiculously good signing. We’ve lacked that midfield enforcer for years, and he would have come in and completely transformed the middle of the park almost single-handedly.
His energy, defensive diligence and sheer work rate would allow the likes of Ander Herrera and Paul Pogba to venture further forward, but, quite clearly, he won’t be making the move to the Theatre of Dreams which is a real shame.
With that said, the aforementioned report does say that Mourinho is after a new midfielder, but he has his eyes on one of Eric Dier or Nemanja Matic. For me, signing any of these guys would be rather underwhelming. Neither set the world alight last season and both lack mobility which is essential in the modern day game.
