Manchester United had scouts watching Lazio star Sergej Milinkovic-Savic last week, the Daily Mail report.
Jose Mourinho apparently wants two new midfielders during the summer transfer window and that makes sense as Michael Carrick is retiring, whereas Marouane Fellaini still hasn’t signed a new contract.
The Red Devils had officials watching Milinkovic-Savic when Lazio were hammered 4-1 by RB Salzburg in the Europa League; unfortunately, a game in which the Serbia star struggled to make an impression.
However, that hasn’t stopped the Serie A side demanding huge money for the 23-year-old, with Lazio valuing him at £89million; a monumental amount of money.
Mourinho has tried a few different midfielders alongside Paul Pogba and Nemanja Matic this season, but he’s certainly struggled to find that regular option. Obviously, he feels Milinkovic-Savic can be that man, and I’d agree.
In terms of playing style, he’d provide the perfect blend of energy, on-ball quality and defensive work-rate. He’ll also chip in with some goals, too, as he’s found the back of the net 11 times this season.
This is certainly a move I’d love to see happen, but don’t be surprised if there is competition aplenty for his signature.
