Manchester United set to hand new contract to star despite fallout with Jose Mourinho

Manchester United are in an odd situation at the moment. The lads are playing some excellent football, and there has been some impressive displays, but the results haven’t been ideal. At least the fans can see where Jose Mourinho is taking us, and we’re definitely headed in the right direction.

As he continues to build and mould his squad to one that fits his playing style, The Sun say that Chris Smalling is set for a new contract at the Theatre of Dreams, despite a row with the manager before the international break.

Smalling, 26, is out of contract in the summer of 2019, but Jose Mourinho sees him as a vital cog in the team going forward and is ready to hand him a new deal.

Alongside Bailly, the Englishman looked great. However, just before he got injured, Smalling was really struggling – and it all came to the boil against Chelsea in which he played some part in all four goals we conceded.

Hopefully he can come back stronger from his injury and force his way back into the team.
