Manchester United set to trigger contract extension of huge fan favourite

Perhaps the best thing to happen under David Moyes was the fact that we signed Juan Mata from Chelsea Football Club. The lovable Spaniard has been a fan favourite ever since, with him having a real connection with the fans as soon as he arrived via helicopter that day.

When Jose Mourinho arrived in the summer just gone, many thought that Mata’s time at Manchester United would be over as the pair didn’t really see eye-to-eye at Stamford Bridge.

However, that hasn’t happened and in fact, the attacking midfielder has been one of Jose’s go-to players for pretty much every game. Now it looks as though the 28-year-old is to be rewarded by the Old Trafford club.

The Daily Star say that both Manchester United and Mata want to trigger the one-year contract extension that was placed in his contract when he arrived in 2013. The ex-Chelsea man currently has sixteen months left on his current move, but adding a further year would see him remain a Red Devil until the summer of 2019.

This would be brilliant to hear if true. I thought it was curtains for Mata when Jose was announced as the boss, but credit to him for continuing to work hard and fight for his place.

He just seems to make us tick and when he plays, the team as a whole tend to perform much better. Nowadays he’s one of the first names on the team sheet and it’s great to see him performing so well.
