Manchester United have a whole host of their top stars jetting off for France to take part in Euro 2016, but one national who’ll remain at home is Holland. They themselves have some friendlies lined up, but Timothy Fosu-Mensah has decided to reject an international call-up.
That’s according to The Sun, who say the young defender wants to prioritise Manchester United at this current moment in time.
The full-back has admitted that a groin problem has been causing him a few problems recently, and he wants to address that first and foremost.
“A groin problem was causing me too much problems.” Fosu-Mensah began.
“I told the national team coach about it and also informed the doctor. I need to rest.”
“If I do too much now, I will be sidelined during pre-season. We also have a trip to China coming up with Manchester United.”
“I have to be fit for that. It’s a long journey and we will be training hard.
“I will meet with my physio in two weeks’ time and we will do everything to make sure I will be ready for the first training of the new season.
“The national team coach has ensured me that he is keeping a close eye on me. I am still only 18. My time will come.
“I am focused on United now. I was happy with the call-up for Netherlands and the coach will keep following me.”
This is a first-class attitude to have whilst trying to impress your new manager. Jose Mourinho will obviously love this kind of attitude, and I’ve no doubt that Fosu-Mensah will get some game-time under the self-proclaimed Special One.
Fosu-Mensah certainly has a bright future if he keeps his head screwed on, and we could well have one of the most promising full-backs in the game already on our books.
