Manchester United made somewhat of a bizarre move to bring Sergio Romero to Old Trafford in the summer, with the Argentinian coming on a free transfer after being released by former club Sampdoria. Romero began the season in between the sticks, but has since been dropped in favour of David de Gea.
The 28-year old made a solid start to life as the new number one, but David de Gea’s return couldn’t have been more timely when Romero made two huge blunders which cost United three points away at Swansea.
He has now spoken out about playing a back-up role to De Gea, and is seemingly happy to do so.
“I took the matches when I was given the chance to play, but when De Gea renewed it was obvious he was going back to the team.
“De Gea won the place over the years he was there. The coach talked to me and I understood perfectly.”
Obviously he’ll keep working hard and be ready if De Gea gets injured or starts to under perform, but unfortunately for Romero I don’t see him getting his chance anytime soon…
