Manchester United are set to hand Ander Herrera an incredible new contract worth £200,000-a-week, according to the Daily Star. The 27-year-old will pocket a huge £41.6million for the duration of the deal – making him one of the highest paid players at the Theatre of Dreams.
The report states that the Old Trafford club want to announce the new deal whilst they are on tour of the United States, which clearly suggests that a deal could be close to completion.
Jose Mourinho regards the Basque-born midfielder as one of his most important players, and as the season went on, the former Bilbao man just got better and better. He’s energetic, great on the ball and a proper team player – a typical Mourinho footballer.
He’s just great, isn’t he? For me, Herrera is more than deserving of a new deal. The midfielder is one of a rare breed of overseas players who understands what it means to play for Manchester United Football Club.
That was summed up perfectly when rumours of a move to FC Barcelona surfaced, and he immediately quashed them committing his future to being a Red Devil.
Personally, I would have made him captain, but no doubt he’ll get his fair share of appearances wearing the armband as Michael Carrick won’t be playing every week.
