Manchester United are currently in the middle of a two-week hiatus due to the nightmare that is the international break, but that hasn’t stopped the club working and planning behind the scenes. This is the ideal time to work out what players are deserving of new contracts, and it looks as though one is about to be handed out.
According to reports, Timothy Fosu-Mensah has agreed to sign a new four-year contract at the Theatre of Dreams, keeping him at the club until the summer of 2020.
The Dutchman, 18, is obviously highly regarded by the hierarchy and board at Manchester United, particularly after some impressive performances under Louis van Gaal last season.
This season has been different and he has to remain patient, but Jose Mourinho clearly is impressed by his talents and ability, and he will get his big chance in the not too distant future.
Producing young stars is what Manchester United do. It’s in their DNA and the club have an absolute star on their hands in Fosu-Mensah. It makes absolute sense to get him tied down for the foreseeable future to stop other clubs sniffing around to steal him away.
