Manchester United step up interest in pursuit of world-class playmaker: report

Manchester United Football Club are ready to step up their interest in James Rodriguez. That’s according to Spanish media outlet AS, translated by talkSPORT. The report adds that Wayne Rooney’s exit has allowed Jose Mourinho to intensify his interest in the Colombian attacker.

Apparently, the 25-year-old wants his future sorting before Real Madrid’s pre-season starts later this week, but United will have to splash the cash and spend a huge £62million to land Rodriguez.

The Colombia international has been in and out of proceedings at the Santiago Bernabeu, but he found himself excluded from Madrid’s Champions League final squad, that beat Juventus in Cardiff last month.

In my opinion, that was probably the final straw for one of the best playmakers in the game, and a move away would probably be in his best interests.

There is definitely an opening in that area of the field at Manchester United, but I’m of the opinion that we already have the right players within the squad to fill that void; namely Juan Mata and Henrikh Mkhitaryan.

I’d much prefer us to spend our money on an out-and-out winger, hence why I believe a move for Ivan Perisic, who we’ve been heavily linked with, makes a lot of sense.
