Manchester United’s defence has been extremely stern of late, but the rumours linking defenders with a move to Old Trafford just don’t seem to be going away. The latest defender on that list is Everton’s want away centre-half John Stones.
According to ESPN, Manchester United are preparing to hijack Chelsea’s move to bring the 21-year old to Old Trafford this summer, and are prepared to offer Phil Jones as part of any deal. This should benefit Everton more than Chelsea’s offer of cash straight up as they already have a ready-made replacement on his way in.
The ex-Barnsley defender Stones is clearly a talented player, but the £40million asking price that Everton are demanding certainly seems a bit steep – particularly when United will be losing one of their best talents as part of the deal.
Personally I’d say if we’re signing a centre-back we need someone with a bit of seniority about them, if not, we should persist with Phil Jones because he has bags of talent. He just needs to stay fit.
