Manchester United Football Club are set to open talks with Jesse Lingard over a new contract.
That’s according to The Metro, who say that conversations will begin within the coming weeks, that’ll see Lingard improve upon his current £100,000-a-week salary.
The 25-year-old only signed a new four-year deal just last year, but after becoming a hugely important figure under Jose Mourinho, it seems that the club are ready to reward the Warrington-born-winger, and I’ve got absolutely no issue with that.
Lingard scored thirteen goals last term, in 48 appearances, which is a pretty decent record all things considered.
It’s always nice to see homegrown talents doing well, Lingard has been arguably the biggest beneficiary of the youth system at United over the last year or two.
He has improved massively under the self-proclaimed Special One, and our manager deserves huge credit for that.
It’s the movement, the off-ball ability, the constant pressure he puts on defenders. Lingard doesn’t give the opponent a moment’s rest, he’s a thorn in the side of everyone he comes up against. Having that world-class ability to keep defenders moving is not something that can be taught. I’d love for him to stick around for a little while longer yet, so I hope he pens this new deal.
