Manchester United to swap Shinji Kagawa for Ilkay Gundogan

Ilkay Gundogan and Shinji Kagawa were both part of Borussia Dortmund’s title-winning side a couple of years ago, however since then things have changed. United signed Kagawa for £12m over eighteen months ago now, and has yet failed to make his mark in England, whereas Ilkay Gundogan has spent basically the whole season injured.

Kagawa, often deployed out of position has impressed in recent weeks, but hasn’t yet been deployed from the start in any of United’s bigger matches this year meaning that an exit could well be on the cards for our Japanese star.

Ben Fairthorne, who has worked for CNN, The Mail and The Sun tweeted this earlier on:

As we all know, Kagawa’s favourite position is in-behind the striker but he currently has Mata, Rooney and even Adnan Januzaj all in front of him in that slot, meaning he is often stuck out on the wing.

Honestly, if Ilkay Gundogan’s injury isn’t a long-term problem I’d be over the moon if this deal were to go through. Sometimes it just doesn’t work out for players at certain clubs and that sadly seems to be the case with Kagawa, so I reckon we should cut our losses whilst he still has value and bring in a player who would be starting for us week-in week-out.

The failure to play Kagawa in his proper position is a travisity! Ferguson and Moyes have wasted his talents and hurt the TEAM! Playing Young anywhere on the pitch or Cleverly in the middle instead of Kawaga is absolutely DAFT!!!!

Most MU fans would agree that it would be a travesty if we let Kagawa go without really trying to get the best out of him. Adnan is still learning and Rooney is nowhere as gifted in that position so the only real competition is Mata and when played together these two are starting to build a good understanding. People criticize Sir Alex for not playing him but one of his last statements was that this year Shinji would begin to show his true worth. His intentions were to sell Rooney and Shinji was to be his replacement. Unfortunately Sir Alex retired and this numpty sold his soul to Rooney and then bought Mata (superb but not required)

Buying Kagawa and having him either on the bench or the wing is like buying a Ferrari and leaving it in the garage while you carry on driving your Skoda. Ferguson was as guilty as Moyes and it has continuously baffled me. It’s been said a thousand times but it is true, this man was brilliant for Dortmund in a team that was considered one of the best in Europe and brushed aside the mighty Munich 2 years running in the German league. I’m born, bred & still live in Manchester so I hear plenty of opinions on him and it also baffles me that most reds dismiss him now as a flop. It’s absolute nonsense. If he’d been given time to bed in with the team in HIS BEST position he would by now be pulling the strings week in week out but the lad’s confidence has suffered because he’s never been given 2 games in a row in the number 10 spot. Rooney should be played as a striker. I like Mata a lot but the previous comment was bang on, we already had the man for that job and £37 mill could’ve gone somewhere else. The other problem is that we are a club with a long history of wingers which is great when you have flying machines like 24 year old Giggs’s, Ronaldo’s or Kancelskis’s but if you haven’t then why try to shoe horn in players like Young? It’s a crime on Ferguson’ and Moyes’ part and it is one that will baffle me for ever..

janujaz is NOT ahead of kagawa in the “no 10” role… if janujaz does play, he is far better on the wing

rooney is pretty uselss in the no10 role, as a striker he has started to really influence the game more and gotten loads more goals.

basically moyes needs to learn to use common sense and actually rotate his squad. theres many ways i can think of for fielding a variety of squads and formations that would allow maximum use of the squad for a season. moyes just too idiotic, selling kagawa the most idiotic idea ever.

    • Personally I think he is. Januzaj has probably had more minutes than Kagawa in the #10 slot this season which says it all.

I really don’t think Kagawa has been given a fair crack of the whip. Playing every few games or coming on for a cameo role. It’s hard for players to shine when they don’t get a run in the team. IMHO I think he could be quality but will he be given the chance he deserves?
