Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho would like to sign a new left-back this summer, with Kieran Tierney being linked with an Old Trafford move.
According to the Manchester Evening News per the Daily Express, the Scot is high on Mourinho’s list of potential left-back targets; although it’d take at least £25million to tempt Celtic into parting with their prized asset.
Tierney, 21, has won titles aplenty North of the border, and perhaps it’s now time to take his talents to the Premier League. Although young, he’s had big games experience aplenty, including impressing in the Champions League last season; most notably against Manchester City.
The report goes on to add that Luke Shaw’s Red Devils future remains uncertain, with manager Mourinho looking to bring in another option.
Signing Tierney would be a marked upgrade on our current options. I don’t think it’d take him long to beat out competition from Ashley Young, and that starting job could well be his from the off. With time winding down before the new season gets underway, the United board would have to act quickly to push this deal over the line; preferably before pre-season tour is finished, so he can get acquitted to life at Old Trafford.
Anyway, at this point, I’m likely getting way ahead of myself. Hopefully, United and Celtic can agree upon a transfer fee and get the ball rolling.
