Manchester United finally managed to secure a home victory in the Premier League, but my they made us sweat it out. Jose’s team beat Tottenham Hotspur by a slender 1-0 scoreline, thanks to a stunning first Old Trafford goal by Henrikh Mkhitaryan.
A trio of reds found their performances rewarded with a spot in WhoScored’s Premier League Team of the Week, and credit to all three of them – who thoroughly deserve it.
First up we have David de Gea, who was given a rating of 7.4 which is pretty high for a goalkeeper. He obviously kept a clean sheet, and preserved that with a couple of smart saves in the second half.
Phil Jones is more than worthy of a spot in the XI too. He was handed an 8.4 mark out of 10, and some of his defensive plays were nothing short of sensational – particularly that tackle on Danny Rose deep into injury time, that he had to get inch-perfect or risk giving away a penalty.
The final Manchester United player named in the squad was Ander Herrera, who came in with an 8.6 mark. What a game he had. He made the most tackles on the field, was tireless throughout and his through ball into Mkhitaryan was inch-perfect.
Perhaps the only shock is the fact that Mkhitaryan didn’t earn a spot in WhoScored’s team, because he did score the only goal of the game and his all-round performance was nothing short of excellent.
