Manchester United have target Borussia Dortmund’s Mats Hummels as their #1 defensive transfer target once the summer transfer window opens. Louis van Gaal is a big fan of Hummels, and the 62-year old wants the German international to be the main part of a new look back four.
Van Gaal will be handed £100m to revamp the current United squad, and players like Kevin Strootman, Marco Reus and Toni Kroos, alongside the aforementioned Mats Hummels are all believed to be on the Dutchman’s wish list.
Hummels, 25, started his career at Bayern Munich before moving to Dortmund back in 2008, and since then he has been a mainstay in their back four. He also has 28 caps for his native Germany, proving himself on the biggest stage.
He’d be a great addition for United, and his game suits the Premier League perfectly. He’s strong, excellent in the air and he plays out from the back, and at just 25 he has at least five years left at the highest level.
In terms of a transfer fee, he’d probably cost around the £20m mark, and he’d certainly be tough to prise away from Klopp and Borussia Dortmund.
