Manchester United could have one of their key assets back and available for the season opener that is the Community Shield this Sunday. Chris Smalling, who has missed all of pre-season so far due to injury is back in first-team training ahead of this Sunday’s showpiece.
That’s according to BBC journalist, Simon Stone, who took to Twitter to confirm the news that gave Manchester United fans something to cheer about after a dismal pre-season.
Smalling was one of Manchester United’s top performers last term, as he turned into a real commanding centre-back, and really stamped his authority on the Premier League.
It looks as though Chris Smalling probably won’t start in the game due to a lack of any real match rhythm, though, and let’s not forget he’s also out of United’s game against Bournemouth due to a suspension carrying over from last campaign.

Chris Smalling was present for open bit of @ManUtd training this morning. Bastian Schweinsteiger was not.
