Manchester United Football Club have a whole host of goalkeepers on their books at the moment, led by one of the best on the planet – David de Gea. However, one of our shot-stoppers could be about to leave Old Trafford on a permanent deal; that’s if Steve Bruce (Aston Villa boss) gets his way.
According to the Daily Telegraph, Bruce has opened talks with Jose Mourinho about the possibility of signing Sam Johnstone on a permanent deal.
Johnstone, 24, is currently playing for the Championship club on loan, and he obviously must be impressing the Villa crowd if they want to keep him for good. That’s backed up by an impressive five clean sheets in his last six games.
The report says that Bruce wants to sign Johnstone in a deal worth around £3million, and that may be too good to turn down for a goalkeeper who has largely been on the periphery of things here in Manchester.
He’s not getting the game time at the Theatre of Dreams, and is definitely behind both Sergio Romero and David de Gea in the pecking order, so perhaps a move away is in the best interests of all involved.
It would be a shame to see him leave, but sometimes, he has to think about the good of his career – and at this point in time, the only way for him to improve is by playing regularly.
